DES-F (Formalin 37%) > IMPORTANT INFO!

Attention: Intended for professional use only. DES-F may only be purchased by professional users who have completed training in space disinfection and companies with a UBN number! What is a UBN number? Click here for more information.

Use
Permitted exclusively for use as an agent to combat bacteria (incl. mycobacteria, but excl. bacterial spores) on the hooves of cattle and sheep by means of hoof baths.

In addition, DES-F is permitted as an agent to combat bacteria (incl. mycobacteria, but excl. bacterial spores), yeasts, fungi, and viruses by means of fogging/nebulization, as described in the instructions for use, in animal housing with associated stables and materials and empty spaces intended for the cultivation of edible and ornamental crops and mushrooms.

Active substance: Formaldehyde 37%

Instructions for use
Disinfection via hoof baths:
The agent is intended for the disinfection of the hooves of cattle and sheep.
Clean the hooves to be disinfected thoroughly first with clean water. Fill a clean tub, possibly equipped with a foot mat, with water and add the agent. Position the tub in such a way that the livestock walks through it.

Dosage: 4% (top up 4 liters of product with water to 100 liters). Use the solution for a maximum of 24 hours after filling the tub.

For routine use: repeat every 2 to 3 weeks.

For ad-hoc treatment: 1 to 2 times per week.

What else should you keep in mind when using a foot bath?

  • Prevention: hygiene is very important in preventing and controlling hoof diseases such as Mortellaro and foot rot. Ensure that the slats are clean and dry, so that the hooves become less soiled with manure. Trim the entire herd regularly and treat animals that are sensitive or walking lamely quickly. Make use of foot baths.
  • Ensure the correct concentration: use 4 liters of DES-F per 100 liters of water.
  • Refresh the bath in good time; it loses its efficacy after 24 hours.
  • A good foot bath is at least 3 meters long and the fluid level is at least 12 cm, so that the entire hoof is submerged. You can also use a “tandem tub”: here, the first tub is filled with a light disinfectant, and the second tub is the actual foot bath.
  • Ensure that the animals arrive on a clean floor after the foot bath. This allows the agent to take proper effect.
  • Remove the tub after use. This prevents the tub from becoming full of manure and thus becoming a source of contamination instead of a disinfection bath.
  • Inlay mats in the tub have a beneficial effect. Because the hooves sink into these slightly, they are better submerged. Furthermore, the animals have better grip and therefore walk through it more easily.

Disinfection via fogging/nebulization (exclusively using jet engine equipment used according to the instruction below):
Clean the spaces, surfaces, and equipment to be disinfected thoroughly first. Rinse away any cleaning agent used with clean water. Remove excess water.
Rinse materials that may come into contact with animal feed or drinking water for animals thoroughly with clean water after treatment.

General instructions for fogging:

  • Carry out treatment at a temperature above 15°C; heat the space first if necessary.
  • Switch off the ventilation of the space in question and seal ventilation openings.
  • Wear the following personal protective equipment: respiratory protection (B2 gray), gloves, and a tight-fitting spray suit.
  • Fill suitable equipment with the correct amount of product, turn on the equipment, and leave the space immediately.
  • Subsequently, keep the space closed for 24 hours.
  • Heat the space to above 15°C, ventilate the residual vapors out of the space until the space is completely dry.
  • If the treated space must be entered for any interim sampling, the same personal protective equipment as prescribed above must be worn.
  • For sampling, Dräger absorption tubes are used, measuring range 0.2 – 2.5 mg/m3.
  • The occupational exposure limits for formaldehyde are used as the limit value for entering the space (OEL-TWA 15 minutes: 0.5 mg/m3, OEL-TWA 8 hours: 0.15 mg/m3).

Dosage:
Fogging of animal housing and associated stables and materials (machinery and tools): undiluted agent, 1.3 to 2.5 liters of agent per 100 m3. It is also possible to apply the agent diluted in water. In this case, a comparable amount of agent (1.3 to 2.5 liters of undiluted agent/100 m3) must be applied.

Fogging of empty spaces intended for the cultivation of edible and ornamental crops and mushrooms (excluding applications in storage facilities for flower bulb and tuber crops, by means of bulb and crate treatment, as well as for space treatment):
2% (top up 2 liters of product with water to 100 liters). Use 5 to 6 liters of solution per 100 m3.

N.B.: The agent becomes ineffective when it comes into contact with soap or synthetic detergents and when it is contaminated with organic material.

To prevent reduced functioning of an Individual Wastewater Treatment (IBA) system, waste residues containing the agent should be discharged into the manure pit or the municipal sewer.

Storage: frost-free.
