Salmon Oil for horses – omega 3 (EPA & DHA) support

Salmon Oil is a complementary feed for horses and ponies, rich in omega 3 (EPA & DHA) and omega 6 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids contribute to the support of general health and fit within a balanced ration. Salmon Oil is widely used as a daily supplement and is suitable for horses that could use extra support, for example during training, conditioning, or coat care.

Salmon oil vs. linseed oil

Both salmon oil and linseed oil contain essential fatty acids that the body needs for normal functions.

The difference lies in the types of omega 3 fatty acids:

• Linseed oil contains mainly ALA (plant-based)
• Salmon oil contains not only ALA but also EPA and DHA (animal-based)

ALA must first be converted into EPA and DHA in the body. This process has limited efficiency. EPA and DHA from salmon oil are directly available to the body and therefore fit well into a diet where these fatty acids are desired.

Salmon Oil consists mainly of Scottish salmon oil and naturally contains omega fatty acids.

Feeding advice

< 450 kg:

• High: 40 ml per day
• Maintenance: 20 ml per day

≥ 450 kg:
