How effective is the Bi Bolus?
Scientific trials have shown that sodium bicarbonate raises rumen pH. A German study found that 20 percent of dairy farms have problems with rumen acidosis. The cost of a clinical case is estimated at €400 to €600 per cow. Rumen acidosis can lead to laminitis and lameness.
 
Which cows is it suitable for?
When the rumen contents are acidic (acidosis).
Ideal when rumination activity is low, in hot weather, and during transport.
 
How can rumen acidosis be recognized?
By a low milk fat content (< 3%), or a milk fat content lower than the milk protein content. Rumen acidosis occurs on every dairy farm, but its severity varies from farm to farm. High-producing cows are particularly susceptible to this condition after calving.
